A Book Review...and giveaway!

Every night, we spend time as a family reading from a children's story Bible.  Not just any flaky children's Bible will do, though.  We want to read to our children stories that are truths from the Bible and portray God for who He is and God's Son, Jesus Christ for what He did on the cross.  We have found a few good Bibles to use, but the most recent find is hands down THE BEST!

Thanks to a recommendation from our new friend, Esther, we now are really enjoying The Jesus Storybook Bible

This book is packed full of great Bible stories that are easy to read and easy to understand. The thing that makes this book so special is that it is more than just a book of random stories from the Bible. The stories are written to help us see how they all fit together. It's amazing to see how even the Old Testament stories help us to understand why Jesus is at the center of God's redemption story and our story, too. The beautifully written narrative also makes you feel like you are right there with the people in the Bible story!  It's hard to stop after one chapter!

Here's an excerpt from our story tonight:

The Good Shepherd
(a paraphrase of Psalm 23)

God is my Shepherd
And I am his little lamb.

He feeds me
He guides me
He looks after me.
I have everything I need.

Inside, my heart is very quiet.
As quiet as lying still in soft green grass
In a meadow
By a little stream.

Even when I walk through
the dark, scary, lonely places
I won't be afraid
Because my Shepherd knows where I am.

He is here with me
He keeps me safe
He rescues me

He makes me strong
And brave.

He is getting wonderful things ready for me
Especially for me
Everything I ever dreamed of!

He fills my heart so full of happiness
I can't hold it all inside.

Wherever I go I know
God's Never Stopping
Never Giving Up
Unbreaking
Always and Forever
Love
Will go, too!

God gave David that song to sing to his people, so they could know that he loved them and would always look after them -- like a shepherd loves his sheep.
And one day, God was going to do something that would inspire thousands upon thousands of new songs.  God was going to show his people once and for all just how much he loved them.
Another Shepherd was coming -- a greater Shepherd.  He would be called the Good Shepherd.  And this Shepherd was going to lead all of God's lambs back to the place where they had always belonged -- close to God's heart.

Don't you wish you could keep reading?

Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia and Haagen Dazs coffee have been my favorites for literally 24 years! Love them - I rarely buy them because to me the whole container is one serving!

This is the Bible we got Lily for Christmas this year and we LOVE it!!! We read her a story from it every night, and you're right, sometimes I don't want to stop reading!

Since we already have this, you can take my name out of the giveaway -- I'd rather someone else win it. But just for fun I'll tell you my favorite ice cream flavor: NONE. I don't like ice cream :) I guess if I had to choose though, it would be chocolate peanut butter :)

I believe anything you recommend & use with your own children must be really good. Even if I don't win I may look to add this to my library :).
My fav ice cream...anything with chocolate chunks in it. When I was pregnant with the boys I ate ice cream every night because the cold would make them move & I loved that!
Late tonight, but I will try to blog tomorrow!
