V.A.C.A.T.I.O.N 2

DAY 2

We woke up to beautiful blue skies and sunshine in Albuquerque, New Mexico!
This interchange was so fun to see and try to figure out.  Thank goodness for GPS!
On our trek to find a Starbucks, we came across several hot air balloons--something we knew Albuquerque was known for.  They were such a pretty site!
Albuquerque is such a pretty city and definitely made our "revisit" list in the few short hours we were there!
We found some nice hot Starbucks coffee, chatted with some super friendly people, and scored some yummy donuts at a Krispy Kreme.  We were set for our six hour drive to the Grand Canyon!

The scenery was immediately beautiful!
There were seemingly endless trains running alongside the interstate with us--the perfect fun game for the kids to see and count cars!
 The painted desert was beautiful!
We made a quick stop for a potty break and some postcards at Indian City.
There were so many fun sites to see along the way!
Shortly after we crossed into Arizona, we stopped for a special picture at the Holbrook sign.
The first summer after we were married we spent traveling along the West Coast.  The town of Holbrook was one of our first stops.  The whole weekend we spent there in 2000 was packed full of memories that quickly came back and made us miss those seven amazing friends we spent the summer with!

Our final stop of the day:  One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World
Welcome to the Grand Canyon!

The Colorado River flows right through the Canyon.
(The kids remembered this river from our trip to the Royal Gorge a few years ago!)
We made our way up to Lookout Tower.
(and took a picture to see Maddox the giant!)
It was nice to stretch our legs as we climbed up the stairs.
The artwork in the tower was beautiful and the kids got a special Park Ranger Kids Book to help them recreate these symbols into a story of their own.  (Great freebie, Grand Canyon!)
This is looking up three stories leaning over a huge drop...scary!  Who drew the short straw to paint that?
Beautiful clear view of the canyon and a pretty girl!
We found the perfect picture tree off the beaten path.
My mom and dad...the underwriters of the trip!
A little photo bomber snuck in our picture!
Maddox got in on the picture taking fun with his phone, too!
We were all amazed to see this verse from Psalm 66 set in stone overlooking the beautiful canyon view.  It was such a great reminder of our Creator to whom all the glory for this spectacular creation belongs.
Shout joyful praises to God, all the earth! Sing about the glory of his name!
Tell the world how glorious he is.
Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! Your enemies cringe before your mighty power. Everything on earth will worship you; they will sing your praises, shouting your name in glorious songs."
Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he performs for people!
Psalm 66:1-5
Thankfully, Maddox has a healthy fear of heights and let me hold on tight to him!
McClain has no fear and would pose anywhere Cody told him to go!

This picture is me breaking through a few fears...heights, drop offs, slippery rocks...
I love our kids and their enthusiasm for God's creation!
They were able to get out so many wiggles and act goofy as we ran along the path to see the next canyon view!
We ran along the path just in time to see the sunset:

Breathtaking!

That night, we stayed at a beautiful KOA campground in Williams, AZ.  It was super affordable, very clean and had excellent facilities (aka clean, warm family bathrooms!).  I would highly recommend staying here if you're heading to the Grand Canyon.  They have RV spots and rental cabins.

Well, there you have our fabulous Crigger Vacation Day 2!
